Voice

Privacy Policy

Voice Politics Inc. (“Voice,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the Voice application and website at voicenews.app (the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your information when you use our Service.

By using Voice, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. Information We Collect

Information You Provide Directly

  • Account Information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and a password (stored securely via hashed authentication).
  • Address Information. We collect your residential address to determine your electoral districts and match you with your elected officials at the local, state, and federal levels. Your full address is stored securely and is never shared publicly or with third parties for marketing purposes.
  • Ratings. When you rate a politician on a moment (a political event), we collect your numerical rating (0–100 scale). Your individual ratings are never publicly attributed to you by name.
  • Communications. If you contact us for support or feedback, we collect your name, email address, and the content of your message.

Information Collected Automatically

  • Device and Usage Information. We collect information about how you access and use the Service, including your browser type, operating system, device identifiers, IP address, pages viewed, actions taken, and timestamps.
  • Analytics Data. We use third-party analytics tools to collect anonymized usage analytics, including page views, feature interactions, session data, and performance metrics. This helps us understand how users engage with Voice and improve the product.
  • Cookies and Similar Technologies. We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to maintain your session, remember your preferences, and collect analytics data.

Information from Third-Party Services

  • Address Validation. When you enter your address during registration, we use a third-party address validation service to autocomplete and verify your address. The provider may collect information in accordance with its own privacy policy.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information for the following purposes:

  • To Provide the Service. Matching you with your elected officials, displaying relevant political moments, recording your ratings, and personalizing your experience.
  • To Generate Aggregated Sentiment Data. Your ratings are combined with other users' ratings to produce anonymized, aggregated political sentiment data. This data is the foundation of our public-facing political barometer and our B2B data product (Wonk). Individual voter identities are never exposed in aggregated data.
  • To Improve the Service. Analyzing usage patterns to fix bugs, develop new features, and optimize user experience.
  • To Communicate with You. Sending service-related emails (e.g., account verification, password resets, product updates). We will not send marketing emails without your consent.
  • To Ensure Security. Detecting and preventing fraud, abuse, bot activity, and other harmful conduct.
  • To Comply with Legal Obligations. Responding to legal requests and preventing harm as required by law.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information.

Aggregated and De-Identified Data

We share anonymized, aggregated sentiment data with third-party customers (campaigns, journalists, academics, prediction market analysts) through our Wonk data product. This data is always aggregated to a minimum cohort size of 10 users and includes only: date, politician ID, average rating, rating count, and state. We never share: individual voter IDs, email addresses, individual ratings, or any other personally identifiable information.

Service Providers

We share information with third-party service providers who perform services on our behalf, subject to contractual obligations to protect your data. These providers fall into the following categories:

  • Authentication and database hosting
  • Product analytics and experimentation
  • Address validation and autocomplete
  • Payment processing (for Wonk customers; voter accounts are free)
  • Application hosting

Legal Requirements

We may be required to disclose certain information in response to lawful requests by public authorities, such as a court order or subpoena. We will only do so to the extent legally required.

Business Transfers

If Voice Politics Inc. is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

4. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you the Service. If you request account deletion, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal, accounting, or security purposes. Anonymized, aggregated data that has already been incorporated into our sentiment datasets will be retained, as it cannot be traced back to any individual.
