President Trump praised grocery chain Giant Eagle for cutting prices on more than 300 products this summer through Labor Day, calling it a response to his push for lower costs. He urged all other grocery chains to follow suit, comparing the move to similar cuts by Walmart. Trump's continued conflict with Iran has increased the price of gas by 15% in recent weeks.
Grocery prices have been a top concern for American families since inflation surged in recent years. Trump has consistently promised to bring costs down but as the war with Iran continues gas prices remain high, forcing the price of all other goods up as delivery and shipping costs have increased. Retailers have begun to announce their own reductions in order to help customers. Giant Eagle launched its promotion on July 9, averaging a 10% cut across proteins, produce, and summer snacks.
