House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries announced he will vote against Rep. Thomas Massie's amendment to cut $3.3 billion in U.S. military aid to Israel. Just weeks ago, the Brooklyn Congressman's fundraising committee received the largest earmarked donation in this history of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee PAC history.
AIPAC's Political Action Committee sent $149,300 to the Jeffries Battleground Protection Fund in May, earmarked from billionaire hedge fund investor Daniel Och. Jeffries is the top House Democrat. The amendment, sponsored by Republican Rep. Thomas Massie and supported by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the rest of the Progressive Caucus, would strip all Israel-related funding from a State Department appropriations bill, not just military aid. Support for Palestinians has exacerbated a rift in the Democratic party and until recently Jeffries was silent on the matter.
