NY Attorney General Letitia James announced a settlement forcing far-right Zionist group Betar US to cease operations in New York after an investigation found they engaged in "bias-motivated assaults, threats, and harassment targeting Muslim, Arab, Palestinian, and Jewish New Yorkers."

Betar US, labeled an "extremist group" by the Anti-Defamation League, has been active in targeting pro-Palestinian voices since the Israel-Gaza war escalated. The group compiled a "deportation list" of students and faculty using facial recognition AI and submitted it to the Trump administration. According to James's investigation, Betar members physically assaulted people wearing keffiyehs, encouraged members to bring weapons (knives, pepper spray, attack dogs) to protests, and even attempted to force "beepers" onto people perceived as Muslim — mocking Israel's deadly pager attack on Hezbollah. The settlement requires Betar to immediately cease violence and harassment, with a suspended $50,000 penalty if violated. The group is winding down its New York operations. Mayor Zohran Mamdani praised the settlement, saying Betar had "sowed a campaign of hatred across New York, trafficking in Islamophobic extremism."
